Wanaka

Wanaka is the closest town (20 minutes) to SHPG. (see the map and directions from Wanaka to SHPG) The area's history has been predominately dictated by the discovery of gold in the 1860-70's and sheep farming in the mid 19th century.

Wanaka has developed from a small service town to an international tourist destination, most popular for its ski resorts and outdoor activities.

With a population of just over 5000 people it is still one of the most desirable places to visit and/or live in New Zealand.
