Southern Hemisphere Proving Grounds (SHPG) is a globally recognised automotive testing facility located in New Zealand’s South Island, offering industry-leading snow and ice testing conditions from June to September.
By enabling an additional winter season in the global development cycle, SHPG helps reduce lead times and fast-track validation for automotive, component, and tyre manufacturers. With 16 private test areas ensuring total confidentiality, world-class infrastructure, and a dedicated alpine management team, SHPG delivers safe, secure, and efficient testing environments backed by exceptional customer service.

Community Support

Sustainability
SHPG is proud to be located in New Zealand, a country renowned for its clean, green image and environment. We continuously look for new technology and methods to enhance our operations and sustainably, including using a certified renewable electricity provider who sources electricity from nearby hydroelectric power stations, and invest in infrastructure at our proving ground to support our customers to develop new technologies such as electric and hydrogen vehicles that contribute to global emissions reduction.
We are committed to minimising our environmental footprint and actively support local conservation initiatives, such as the successful re-establishment of the South Island robin in the Mount Aspiring National Park. We also contribute to the development and maintenance of local walking and mountain biking tracks to promote active lifestyles and enhance the wellbeing of our local community.
